What better way to spend a fall morning in Oregon than to cruise down the Willamette?
Join the unique Willamette River Fall Discovery Tour on Saturday, Oct. 3 and cruise from the lower Willamette River downriver 35 miles to Portland Harbor. The tour will feature noted historians, authors, chefs and naturalists who narrate the cruise while pointing out historic landmarks along the scenic river.
The trip will leave from Jon Storm Park in Oregon City and will go from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Authors Jim Tompkins, “Images of Oregon City,” and Herb Beals, “The History of Native Americans and Gladstone,” will discuss features of the Willamette’s past and the evolution of early river settlements and cities. Naturalist Jerry Hermann, and native plant culinary expert Wayne Pailen will talk about the rivers’ ecology and the uses of native plants.
After reviewing Willamette Falls and Locks, communities of West Linn, Oregon City, Jennings Lodge, Oak Grove, Lake Oswego and Milwaukie, participants will go ashore along the river and discuss river ecology issues.
The trip will be aboard the fully enclosed, heated and authentic Sternwheeler “The Rose.”
Refreshments, beverages and entertainment by the West Linn Community Chorus will be provided.
