To the Editor:

With local and national politics so acrimonious, we can all use more harmony in our lives.

Luckily there’s the West Linn Community Chorus, which will present the second of its two spring 2007 concerts this at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Anne’s Chapel on the Marylhurst University campus.

The West Linn Community Chorus is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to share the joy of music and enrich the community through quality choral performance.

I’ve just come from the chorus’ first 2007 spring concert, and I can say this group fulfills its mission with gusto. I heard show tunes and 60’s favorites that set my toes to tapping, beautiful harmonies that brought tears to my eyes and a soul-stirring gospel number that made me want to jump up and shout. Best of all, I saw 70 individuals of all ages, and no doubt from all points along the political spectrum, who put aside individual differences and worked hard together to bring us the gift of music. They are a credit to our community.

I encourage you to attend the chorus’ concert this Saturday. Invite your mom or a friend. Heck, invite the person whose politics drive you up the wall.

In the presence of this music, there’s no choice but to lighten up, smile, and remember how short, surprising and joyful life can be.

Re: letter

As a new member of the West Linn Community Chorus, I want to thank Jan Rowell for her affirming letter about our concert on May 5. I can also say that from a chorus member's viewpoint, it was a total delight to perform this program. Our excellent directors truly chose something for everyone's taste, so that at one moment we were singing the lush, dreamy "Dirait-on" (in French!) and the next a rousing rendition of "Oklahoma." What's not to love?

I would urge anyone who loves to sing choral music to consider this group as an "extra-choricular" activity.
