The last time that Kyle Kraus played on the same field with his brother Bryant was in the spring of 2005 during a tough state championship loss to Sprague. Now the Kraus’s are set to reunite at the University of Portland.
Last Wednesday, Kyle Kraus signed a letter of intent to play for the Pilots starting in the spring of 2009 and will join Bryant, who recently transferred to the university from Linn-Benton Community College.
“It will definitely be easy on my mom when she wants to see us play,” Kyle Kraus said.
Having his brother as a teammate was only one factor in making up his mind, however.
The Pilots told Kraus that he would likely be part of their pitching staff when he came aboard as a freshman, something that was important to him.
“You can’t get your name out there if you don’t play. There aren’t any guarantees but they said I’d be one of their guys,” Kraus sad.
The baseball program at Portland is emerging and Kraus hopes to help it make the turn. He also appreciates what the university has to offer academically.
“I like the small classes. It’s better than being stuck in a room with 600 other people,” Kraus said.
