The West Linn volleyball team's season came to an end one round before the state tournament over the weekend.
The Lions ran into a fired up Sunset team that played a terrific match and West Linn was ousted from the playoffs in three sets 25-14, 25-20, 25-21.
Sunset used solid passing to set up scoring chances all night and kept its poise amidst West Linn's comeback attempts to win in the Lions' home gym.
West Linn fell behind 7-2 in the opening game before rattling off five straight points on Courtney Wanamaker's serve.
Sunset rallied with seven straight points of its own including a pair of service winners from Erica Willes to reclaim momentum.
The Lions were never in the opening game. Sunset went up 20-10 and, despite three late kills from Isabel Valentine, the Apollos took the early lead.
In the second game, the Lions went up early 4-1 before another long Sunset run put the Apollos in command again.
Sunset scored nine of the next 10 points to lead 10-5.
This time, the Lions responded. Freshman Caitlin O'Neil had a terrific match and had three kills in a West Linn spurt that allowed the Lions to take a 12-11 lead.
