West Linn's Keaton Hedman makes a big run but the play was called back on penalty in the Lion's 41-20 loss to West Salem.
ADVERTISEMENTS
West Salem's ground attack was relentless on Friday as the Titans held off a pesky West Linn team and advanced to the semifinals of the 6A football playoffs with a 41-20 win.
West Salem looked like it might put the game away by halftime when it scored on its first two possessions. Sal Herrera found the end zone on a five-yard run to cap an 11-play opening drive and, after a three-and-out from the Lions, quarterback Brett Smith scrambled 17 yards into the end zone to make it 14-0.
West Salem came up with another stop on defense and a 37-yard run by Herrara put the Titans in scoring range again. But Herrara would fumble on the next play to give the ball back to the Lions.
It would be Herrara's only miscue of the night as the senior was brilliant, running for more than 200 yards and proving to be virtually unstoppable at times.
With four minutes to play in the half, West Linn found the end zone on a 19-yard pass from Logan Krellwitz to Michael MacClanthan.
